Jaguars Successfully Hold Off Eagles 27-25
Story by Jesse Mann, SCCLC

The SCCLC Eagles and Cooperative Jaguar girls varsity basketball teams met today, resulting in a very fast paced battle. The Jaguars scored immediately after the jump ball, establishing an early lead. The Eagles stubbornly challenged this lead, and managed to tie the score at 4 – 4 by the end of the first quarter. Both teams made good use of long, high passes to effectively move the ball up and down the court. The second quarter started with a bang, with both teams quickly scoring two baskets apiece. The scoring afterward slowed down for the rest of the match, with both teams making the majority of their baskets from close inside the key.  Towards the end of the first half, Coop began to play very aggressively on defense, stalling most of the Eagle offensive efforts. Nevertheless, the score at halftime remained relatively close: 13 – 8 in favor of the Jaguars.

The third quarter proved to be much the same as the second, with the Jaguars putting a lot of defensive pressure on the Eagles. Through hard work and determination, however, the Eagles managed to put in a couple of baskets. During the fourth quarter, the Eagles steadily chipped away at the Jaguars' lead, coming within two points of  a tie with two minutes left on the clock. After an Eagle basket that briefly tied up the score, the Jaguars pulled ahead once again to claim a 27-25 victory in a heart stopping finale.
