Boys Varsity Basketball

Jaguars Win Against Griffins 31-23

The Cooperative Jaguars won their first boys varsity basketball game of the season against the International Griffins at the Jaguar gym on Thursday. A very low-scoring first quarter ended 2-1 with the Jaguars ahead, but things really took off in the second quarter. The Griffins scored 5 points while the Jaguars doubled that, scoring 10. The first half ended 12-6 with the Jaguars ahead.

Scoring improved even more in the third quarter with the Griffins scoring 9 points and the Jaguars scoring 13. The Jaguars used their 10 point lead to their advantage in the fourth quarter, and they held off the attempted comeback of the Griffins. The final score was 31-23.

Eagles Beat Knights 39-13

Despite the absence of their four senior players, the Christian Learning Center Eagles easily defeated the Cambridge Knights in boys varsity basketball in a routine game played at the Eagles' gym on Thursday. The game started off with many missed shots, and the Eagles barely managed to get a 2-0 lead before a strange delay stopped play. There was a small problem with Eagle Andre Larsen's jersey number, and this caused a stoppage that postponed play for over 10 minutes. Finally, play resumed, and the Eagles pulled out to a 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The crowd was much more quiet than usual, and it was apparent that the long game was taking its toll on them. In the second quarter, the Eagles scored incessantly, but the Knights were not able to score even a single point until late in the half. A free throw gave the Griffins their first point, but the first half ended with a lopsided score of 20-1.

The Eagles kept pushing the ball down the court in the second half, and their lead widened gradually. However, the Griffins also began scoring a few points of their own. The third quarter ended at 28-4 with the Eagles ahead. The final quarter was fairly uneventful as the Eagles scored 11 more points. The Griffins almost matched the Eagles in this quarter, scoring 9 points of their own. However, this late burst of athleticism was not enough to help the Griffins, and the Eagles won 39-13.
