JV Girls Basketball

Eagles Barely Beat Knights 17-16
Story by Jesse Mann, SCCLC

A very fierce match erupted when the SCCLC and the Cambridge girls JV teams met on the basketball court today. Although the game had a slow beginning, it eventually evolved into an extremely competitive, fast paced battle. The first half resembled a high strung dribbling match, with most shots by both teams rolling harmlessly off the rim. After two quarters the Eagles held a slim lead over the Knights, 7 – 4.

The third quarter saw the Eagles extend their lead by two baskets before the Knights' offense exploded and put nine points on the board in a short amount of time. By the start of the fourth quarter both teams were playing extremely hard, with several fouls and hard fought turnovers. Cambridge managed to hold a thin lead over the Eagles before the Eagles pulled ahead by one point with less than half a minute left in the game. Although awarded four free throws in the dying seconds, Cambridge failed to tie the score. The final score stood at 17 – 16, reflecting a very intense match that could easily have gone to either team.

Jaguars Beat Griffins 20-13

The JV Cooperative Jaguar girls defeated the International Griffins in a game played at the Jaguar gym on Tuesday. The Jaguars pulled out to a small lead in the first quarter with a score of 6-3. This lead continued on into the second quarter and the Jaguars pulled even further ahead at 10-5.

The second half, like the first, was still relatively low-scoring. The Jaguars scored 6 more points in the third quarter while holding the Griffins to 2, and the score ended at 16-7. The Griffins tried to come back in the final quarter, but despite scoring more points than the Jaguars, they could not gain the lead. The final score was 20-13 with the Jaguars winning their first game of the season.
