Jaguars Take Down Griffins 58-11

The Cooperative Jaguar defeated the International Griffins in girls' varsity basketball on Thursday, while managing to score in double-digits in all four quarters. The Jaguars started things off fast with an early lead. This lead was stretched out to 10-0 by the end of the first quarter. The Griffins could not keep up as the Jaguars scored 12 more points before the half. The Griffins did manage three points, and the score at halftime was 22-3.

The ruthless Jaguars stepped up the game even more in the third quarter as they scored an impressive 18 points. The Griffins managed four points of their own, but they could not contain the explosive Jaguar offense. In the final quarter, the Jaguars managed to score another 18 points, and the Griffins again responded with four of their own. The final score was 58-11.

Knights Defeat Eagles Against Overwhelming Odds, 24-22
Story by Jesse Mann, SCCLC

An underperforming game between the SCCLC and Cambridge girl basketball teams escalated into a do-or-die death match on Thursday. The first half was characterized by repetitive turnovers, multiple fouls, and a lack of free throw accuracy on both sides. The Knights managed to sink several free throws in the second quarter that gave them a lead of 15 – 10 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Knights slowly widened this lead, but never established a clear advantage. A steady buildup of penalties resulted in three players from each team fouling out of the game in the fourth quarter. With just two minutes left on the clock the Knights found themselves only two points ahead and missing two players on the court.  Despite being severely undermanned, the three remaining Knights fought fiercely and continued to put points on the board with free throws. Another Eagle basket once again put them within two points of the tie, but a final turnover gave the ball to the Knights to run down the last remaining seconds. When the final buzzer sounded, the Knights had achieved victory in a very close contest that easily could have gone to either team.
