Varsity Girls Volleyball

Game may be forfeited
Last place Knights shock Jaguars, 2-0

In the varsity girls volleyball game held Saturday morning at Cooperative, the Cambridge Knights surprisingly defeated the Cooperative Jaguars 2-0.
It was quite unexpected that the Knights would win as they had lost all three of their previous games this season, while the Jaguars had won all their games and were leading the league.
In the first set the Knights lead throughout the game and eventually ended up winning 25-14.
The second set, however, was extremely close, with the scores always within a few points. The Knights led at first, but the Jaguars went ahead 12-11, and lead until the Knights recovered the lead at 17-16. Cambridge stayed ahead and won 25-21.
The contest was packed with emotion. Each team screamed with delight at each point won, and cheerd itself on, creating an almost constant din in the gym. Only a handful of spectators were on hand. The Cambridge girls were ecstatic over their first win of the year.
It is uncertain, however, whether Cambridge's win will remain on the books. The League rules raise the question of whether Cambridge should be required to forfeit all of its games Saturday after failing to field a time for the girls junior varsity volleyball game. A league meeting will decide the issue during the coming week.
