The Cambridge boy varsity soccer team defeated Cooperative by the very close score of 4-3 Saturday morning on the Jaguars home field.
The Jaguars lead 2-0 for much of the first half on goals by Juan Alfredo Abuawad and Federico Sauto, but the Knights fought back with an unexpected streak of four straight goals, two each by Martin Pacor and Junior Sanchez.
The dynamic duo got a goal each in the first half to knot the score at 2-2 at halftime
Sanchez made it 3-2 shortly after the intermission on a free kick from just outside the penalty area that threaded through a chink in the Cooperative wall, and slithered along the ground into the left side of the goal. It seemed to come in just under the radar of the Cooperative goalie who couldn't quite reach it.
Pacor's second goal was set up when Cambridge midfielder Jose Zhou Zeng carried the ball almost the entire length of the field up the left sideline, pushing it past two defenders. He finally passed it inside to Nicolas Gamboa, who fed the ball to Pacor in the center of the field.
Cooperative got its third goal on a penalty shot earned by Jean Bretel when he was taken down inside the penalty area.
The game became tense as the Jaguars pressed hard to tie the score in the remaining minutes, but were unable to do so.
