These are the results for last week's games, some of which were delayed until this Monday.

Jaguars Dominate Knights 38-20
Story by Sofia Sotelo, Cooperative

The Cooperative Jaguars defeated the Cambridge knights and almost doubled Cambridge’s score in a convincing win Thursday. This win puts the Jaguar girls in the lead tied with the Eagle girls, having no losses so far. The Jaguars were dominant from the beginning of the game, scoring 10 points over the Knight’s two points. In the second quarter the Knights tried to keep up with Cooperative by scoring 6 points, four of them being from layups by Cambridge's Nicole Fermin.

In the second half, the Jaguars continued their dominance with a strong attack, scoring 14 points in the third quarter. Ana Paula Peredo’s basket and 2 of her foul shots at the start of the quarter made accounted for 4 of the points, and the rest of the Jaguar players scored two points each.
In the fourth quarter, trying to keep up, the Cambridge girls brought up a good defense scored eight points, 6 of them from layups by Josefina Rodriguez. However, this was not enough to get the Knights back into the game. The final score was 38-20 with the Jaguars coming out on top. For the Jaguars, the top-scorer was pivot Ana Paula Peredo, followed by Giovanna Varalta. For Cambridge, the top-scorer was the middle-school girl Nicole Fermin.

Eagles Shut Down Griffins 30-9

The Varsity girls Eagles defeated the International Griffins at the International gym on Monday with a score of 30-9. The game started out quick with Jessica Smith scoring two baskets for the Eagles on breakaways. The Griffins managed two free throws, but the Eagles got in four more points before the end of the first quarter, which ended 8-2 with the Eagles ahead. The Eagles shot off again in the second quarter and brought their lead to 12-2. The Griffins were able to steal the ball many times, but they did not seem to be able to put the ball in the basket. At one point the Griffins stole three balls in a row but failed to convert any of the steals to points. The first half ended at 12-2.

The second half started with the Eagles lengthening their lead to 14-2. Outstanding performances from Jessica Smith and Tabitha Malloy pushed the Eagles forward even more. They were relentless as the gap in scores increased to 20-2. The Griffins were again unable to score off of breakaways and steals. The third quarter ended 24-2. The Griffins finally broke through in the final quarter with their first basket since the first quarter. They matched the Eagles point for point, but a comeback was impossible. The Griffins ended up outscoring the Eagles 7-6 in the final quarter, but it was a losing battle, and the Eagles won the game 30-9.
