Eagles Triumph over Knights 30-24
The SCCLC Boys Varsity basketball team held off the Cambridge Knights in order to win their first game of the season 30-24. This game was played in the SCCLC gym on Thursday. The win was even more impressive due to the absence of Eagles stars Jesse Hallock and Caleb Ropp. The game started off at an incredibly fast pace with both teams fighting for every loose ball and battling for every point. The score went to 2-2, and then the Eagles pulled slightly ahead at 5-2 to end the first quarter. The Eagles seemed to pull ahead even more as they went up 7-2 in the second quarter. However, two quick layups by the Knights brought them back within one point of the Eagles at 7-6. Eagle Andre Larsen retaliated with two baskets of his own to bring the Eagles up 11-6. The Eagles continued to stretch their lead to 15-6 before the Knights scored twice more. A few more points by both teams brought the score at the end of the half to 17-11 with the Eagles ahead.
The second half was equally as intense as the first half. Both teams were fighting neck and neck for each basket. Two baskets for each team brought the score to 21-15, but Cambridge could not bridge the 6 point gap between them and the Eagles. Both teams seemed desperate to win, and at times the game almost seemed violent. A three-pointer by the Knights brought them within 4 points of the Eagles, but the Eagles fought back and began to pull ahead even more. The score went from 22-18 all the way to 30-19 before the Knights really began their comeback. With 3 minutes left in the game, the Knights scored a basket to bring them withing 9 points of the Eagles. Both teams had good passing, but travelling fouls were an issue for both of them as well. Another Knights three-pointer brought the score to 30-24, but the Eagles were able to hold of the Knights for the rest of the game, which ended 30-24, and the Eagles continued their winning streak that has now lasted over two seasons.
