Boys Varsity Soccer

Jaguars down Knights, 5-0

The Cooperative varsity boys soccer team opened its season with a convincing 5-0 victory over Cambridge on their home field Thursday.
The Red Knights put up a creditable fight, holding Cooperative scoreless for much of the first half, which ended with Cooperative ahead by only 1-0 on a goal by ninth.grader Jorge Zankis.
Most of the first half action was in the Cambridge end, however, and in the second half the Jaguars broke through for four more tallies, two by Santiago Paz, and one each by Jean Andre Bretel and Federico Sauto.
The same two teams clashed in last year's championship game, which Cambridge won, but it seemed clear Thursday that Cambridge had lost more through graduation and departures than Cooperative, which has back most of the key players from last year's team.

Griffins post 3-0 win over Eagles

The International boys varsity soccer team defeated Christian Learning 3-0 in a hard-fought game on the International field Thursday.
Andres Estennsoro opened the scoring for the Griffin when he connected on a penalty shot in thefirst half, and added a second goal before the half to put International ahead 2-0. Maykol Villavicencio added the third goal when he connected after a neat series of completed short passes gave him the ball on the left side of the net with the Eagle goalie pulled out of position.
Other than the scoring forays play was fairly even with both sides able to move the ball into the opponents' end.
