Varsity Girls Soccer

Ready . . . aim . . . Ana Karina Marin launches a shot at Cambridge goalie

Griffins outpace Knights, win 2-0
From coaches' reports
It was a great day for soccer, though probably somewhat pleasanter for the International girls varsity, which was able to enjoy a 2-0 victory over Cambridge on its home field Tuesday.
The victory confirmed International's third place finish in the league, and put Cambridge firmly in fourth. International thereby gets the marginally easier task of facing second-place Christian Learning in the playoffs. Cambridge will face first-place Co-operative. Cambridge has one more regular season game against Christian Learning, but that game cannot now materially alter the standings.
The first half was scoreless. International broke the deadlock well into the second half when 10th grader Ana Karina Marin knocked in a goal. They got the insurance score from senior Laura Chavez who kicked a rising shot into the left-hand side of the goal.
Both teams had other chances to score, but were unable to capitalize on them.
The score was the same as that in the game between Co-operative and Christian Learning the day before, but was played with less intensity. The players on both sides seemed to be relaxed and playing for fun.
Earlier this year the two teams had played a 2-2 tie.
