Girls JV Basketball

Cooperative vs. Christian Learning story to come

Griffin JV girls dominate Knights, 21-6

By Adriana Guzman

The International junior varsity girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season Tuesday with a 21-6 victory over Cambridge in the Knights gym.

When the game started the Knights looked really comfortable playing as home for the first time this year, but the Griffins were also pretty excited about being the guests -- as well as about being able to win the match. The game was a “battle of the beatens.” Neither team had won this season.

The two teams were fighting every single point they could earn. And the Knights looked to be quite in a hurry, but it was a bit obvious by the end of the first quarter that Griffins were dominating the match, with the score 7-2 in the visitors favor at the end of the quarter.

The Knights couldn’t let this happen without a fight, and so they managed to improve the score to 8-4 at the end of the half.

The game had quite a few mistakes by both teams, but the excitement of the players was amazing. They were willing to do whatever they could to win the game, but unfortunately for the Knights the more experienced Griffins began to take full control of the game in the third quarter, taking a 12-5 lead, which they increased to 18-6 by the of the third quarter.

The Griffins added three more points in the fourth quarter, while holding the Knights scoreless, to make it 21-6. It was a big win for the Griffins. .

The outstanding players in this game were Maria Zelada of the Griffins, who scored seven points for her team, as well as Pamela Hernandez, who had five.  Anahi Ibañez, Mariana Roca, Camila Barrientos, Monserrat Hernandez,  and Olivia Navarro had two points each

For the Knights, Renata Pinto had four points, and Sol Burgps had two.

Eagle JV Girls Stay Undefeated Against Jaguars, 24-8

By Trevor Reed

The Christian Learning JV girls continued their undefeated season today with a convincing win over the previously undefeated Jaguars. Although this game was more evenly matched than the Eagles' previous two games, the Jaguars were still no match for the aggressive defense and fast-paced offense of the Eagles.

Eagle player Maria Anderson scored the first 6 points for her team, and the Eagles never looked back. The Jaguars did have a few good moments, and they demonstrated good defense against Eagle breakaways. However, the game as a whole was diluted with poor passing from both teams. On the positive side, this also provided more steals for the two. The Eagles led 6-3 by the end of the first quarter, and 10-3 at the half.

In the second half, both teams improved their passing and shooting, but the Eagles kept a very comfortable lead the entire time. Rebecca Escudero and Emily Ordoñez, from the Christian Learning Center, demonstrated superb passing and shooting, working together to transport the ball down the court many times together. The Eagles had stretched the score to 18-6 by the end of the third quarter. Ordoñez and Escudero continued to stand out with great pass blocking and impressive offense. The Jaguars scored one more basket in the final quarter, and the final score ended at 24-8.
