JV Girls Soccer

CRISIS MANAGEMENT -- Jaguar defender Jessica Maureria (6) tries to clear the ball (top photo) with Maureen Harrison (5) on her wing. Maureria and the Jaguar goalie finally get things under control (bottom photo) just as Eagles Emily Ordoñez (2) and Samia Dajbura close in for the kill. Harrison ultimately sits this one out. Little Eagles Blemish Jaguar Escutcheon

Finally someone was able to displace a Jaguar girls soccer team from first place. The Christian Learning and Cooperative junior varsity soccer teams fought to a 0-0 tie in the last game of the season Tuesday on the Jaguars field, and that outcome enabled the Eaglettes to claim the regular season championship banner.
It didn't hurt that the Little Eagles won the post game shootout, which entitled them to an extra point bin the standings that further cemented their hold on first place. By finishing first the Eagles get a bye into the JV championship game. Cooperative and International will play a semifinal to determine who the second team will be.
Christian Learning and Cooperative played to ties in both their meetings this year, but the Eagles had won both their meetings with International, while the Jaguars had tied in one of their games with that team. The Jaguars could have gotten back into first place only by winning Tuesday's game outright.
The game was played on a mostly even basis, with neither team giving the opposing goalie much of a challenge. Eagle Emily Ordoñez perhaps came as close to scoring as any player on either team when in the first half she got off a shot during a collision with the Jaguar goalkeeper, but the ball dribbled just outside of the post.
In the shootout Sandi Wilcke, Isabela Diaz and Emily Mercado made their shots for the Eagles. Kassandra Morales and Maureen Harrison nailed theirs for the Jaguars.
