Kevin Hanley, Griffin headmaster, dies
Kevin J. Hanley, founder and director general of International, died Monday morning in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was 55. Hanley was recently diagnosed with leukemia and was in Sao Paulo for treatment.
A native of Ireland, Hanley had taught all over the world, including Canada, Zambia, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Mexico, prior to founding the Santa Cruz International School in 1992. International was the first school in Bolivia to teach a curriculum in English set up to enable students to pass the Cambridge International Examinations.

International in one of four schools in the Santa Cruz Interscholastic Sports League, noted for its stellar track program, and for its outstanding soccer and volleyball teams.
Hanley also served in recent years as the honorary consul of the United Kingdom in Santa Cruz. He was an enthusiastic horseman, and started the Santa Cruz Pony Club, which is located adjacent to the school. His other interests included the guitar.
He was born in Ireland in 1953, and received both an honours degree in English and philosophy, as well as a postgraduate degree in education, from the National University of Ireland.
He is survived by his wife, Carolina Ibañez; his sons Barry, Emmet, Mark, Carlos Daniel, and Liam Sebastian; a daughter-in-law, Angela; two granddaughters; his brothers, Terry, Jim and Austin; and two sisters, Mary and Genevieve, as well as many in-laws and cousins.
A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, 15 of May, at Casa Funeraria Los Cirios, located on the second ring between Avenida Aleman and Avenida Mutualista, across from Bingo Bahiti. A funeral mass will be held at the same location at 7:30 p.m.
